Which Brands Did I Use For These Magic Wands – Chocolate Dipped Pretzel Rods?
Sometimes when it comes to Semihomemade recipe that use packaged foods to create meals, the brands of items can make or break a dish. I don’t think this ALWAYS happens but I do know that not all packaged items are created equally.
Pretzel rods – I used Snyder’s of Hanover, Pretzel Rods
Soft caramels – Werther’s Original Soft Caramels
Chocolate almond bark or brown candy melts – I used the Target Brand, but I’ve also used Walmart Almond Bark and the brown/chocolate candy melts from Michaels
Black oil based food coloring – I used Pandalab for this but also like ColorMill
Edible glitter or shimmer dust – I used the Cake Craft brand from Hobby lobby but any should be fine. Just make sure it’s labeled as “Food Safe” – DON’T SPRAY CRAFT GLITTER ON THESE.

How To Make Magic Wands – Chocolate Dipped Pretzel Rods:
- Wrap the wands
Warm each caramel in your hands until pliable, then roll and stretch it into a thin rope (think a soft “worm” shape). Wrap it around each pretzel rod, spiraling down about halfway to create that knotted, wood grain wand texture.
- Melt the chocolate/candy melts
Melt your almond bark or candy melts according to the package directions.
- Add the magic swirl
For a realistic wand effect, swirl in a few drops of black oil based coloring. Don’t mix it completely, it should look slightly marbled, giving your chocolate a rustic, enchanted look.
- Dip and Dry
Dip each pretzel rod into the melted chocolate / melted candy melts, turning to coat evenly. Tap gently to remove excess chocolate, then lay each wand on parchment paper.
- Add sparkle
Once the chocolate sets, lightly dust or sprinkle on edible glitter. It’s the perfect finishing touch.

Suggestions:
Serve your chocolate pretzel wands in a cauldron bowl, display them in a tall glass jar like potion sticks, or tuck them into treat bags labeled “Wand Shoppe.” They make magical additions to Halloween dessert boards, Harry Potter parties, or wizard themed birthdays.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I skip the caramel? You can, but the caramel adds that realistic wand texture and gives extra flavor.
How long do they take to set? Usually about 15 to 20 minutes at room temperature.
Can I make these ahead of time? Absolutely. They’re great make ahead treats and hold up beautifully for parties.
What’s the best way to add edible glitter? Once the chocolate is fully dry, lightly brush or sprinkle it on. I also like the pump spray bottles.
