Can I Use Homemade Spaghetti Sauce?
Ablsoutly. I just used jarred sauce for this recipe to make it quicker but you can use your own homemade sauce recipe or my Easy Italian Meatballs in Sauce Recipe.
What Kind of Mushrooms Should I Use For Mushroom Skulls?
I like to use Whole Large – Medium White Button Mushrooms for these skulls but you could also use Whole Baby Bella Mushrooms.
How To Make Mushroom Skull Spaghetti:
- Making Mushroom Skulls:
Brush dirt from mushrooms with a dry paper towel.
-
Don’t try to wash mushrooms as they will become water logged. Just take a paper towel or basting brush and lightly brush away any remaining dirt on the mushrooms.
-
Use a plastic or metal straw to poke two eye sockets into 1 side of the mushroom.
-
Use a small pairing knife to cut two small slits for a nose.
-
Then use the tip of the knife to scrape a few lines down the stem of the mushroom to make the teeth for the skull.
-
Now do the same thing on the backside of the mushroom.
Slice the mushroom in half and you’ll get two skulls from 1 mushroom. -
Lay mushrooms, flat side down, on a baking tray and bake for about 15 minutes.
-
Make Spaghetti, using a homemade recipes like my Easy Italian Meatballs in Sauce Recipe or with jarred pasta sauce. Plate it up and top with mushroom skulls.
