Going Camping or Staying at home? Either way, you’ll love making these Cheesy Ranch Foil Packet Cheese Fries! You can make these over the campfire or at home in the oven! Don’t like ranch? Leave off the ranch seasoning and add bacon bits!

I love cheese fries, I’ve always loved the and always will. They’re the perfect side dish and so easy to make.
I really love this recipe though because it combines ranch and cheese fries and it can be made in the oven OR over the campfire.
My little boy is in boy scouts now and going on his first weekend camping trip with his troop and dad soon. So I have a feeling I’ll be coming up with even more recipes that can be made over the campfire!

Which Brands Did I Use For These Ranch Cheese Fry Foil Packets?
Sometimes when it comes to Semihomemade recipe that use packaged foods to create meals, the brands of items can make or break a dish. I don’t think this ALWAYS happens but I do know that not all packaged items are created equally.
Frozen crinkle fries – I like to use the Grown In Idaho Super Crispy Crinkle Cut Fries for this recipe.
Olive Oil – Whatever kind you normally use is fine.
Dry ranch seasoning – While I love the Sauer’s Original Buttermilk Ranch Seasoning Mix (you have to buy A LOT of it) , if I’m grabbing some from the store, I love the Hidden Valley RESTAURANT STYLE Buttermilk Ranch Salad Dressing Mix
Shredded Colby Jack cheese – any brand you like. I did you CJ cheese for these cheese fries but you could also use shredded cheddar cheese or shredded Monterey Jack cheese.
Foil– any brand you like
Dried parsley optional – any brand you like

How To Make Foil Packet Cheese Fries:
-
Make two “bowls” with foil, about the size of your hand with enough edges to fold up into a packet. You’ll need 1 piece of foil for each packet.
-
Divide frozen fries between the two packets.
-
Drizzle olive oil over fries and then season with the dry ranch seasoning.
Toss the fries to coat evenly. -
Bring up sides of foil and crimp closed to form a packet, leaving just a little but of space for steam to escape.
-
Bake in the oven at 425 or over a grill/campfire for 20-30 minutes, until fries are golden and hot.
-
Carefully, open packets and sprinkle cheese evenly over french fries.
-
Close and add back to heat until cheese is melted.
Toppings:
I only added cheese to these cheesy foil packet fries but you could add any kind of toppings that you’d like. Bacon bits would be great on these and if you like peppers, you could add diced peppers to it before the cheese! Chopped green onions would also be a great topper.
