Can I Use Homemade Cherry Pie Filling?
I haven’t made this recipe using homemade cherry pie filling but it should work! You may just want to add some red food coloring to really make it pop like the canned cherry pie filling.
The bright read looks really spooky coming from the “broken” skulls.
Where To Get A Skull Pie Mold:
I bought this particular mold from amazon (You can find the skull mold here), but I’ve also seen skull baking molds at places like Target, Walmart and even at the Dollar Tree this year!
How To Make Skull Cherry Pies:
-
Wash and clean the skull mold . Make sure to dry it well.
-
Roll out the store bought pie crust and cut into 4 even pieces. Take 1 part of the pie crust and press it down into the skull mold, leaving some of the pie dough overlapping.
-
Fill the mold with 1/2 cup canned cherry pie filling.
-
Pull pie dough back over to cover filling. Press down on skull.
-
Pop into a preheated oven for about 25 minutes or until pie dough it done. I know the box says 15 minutes but we don’t want the bottom of the pie dough to be raw and if we don’t cook it long enough the cherry pie filling will make the bottom dough soggy.
-
Let cherry pies rest in skull mold for 5 minutes, flip out of mold and serve.
