- 16 ounces green candy melts*
- Candy Monster Mouths and Eyes

Ingredient amounts and entire recipe directions in recipe card below with print option!
Which Brands Did I Use For These Monster Rice Krispie Treats?
Sometimes when it comes to Semihomemade recipe that use packaged foods to create meals, the brands of items can make or break a dish. I don’t think this ALWAYS happens but I do know that not all packaged items are created equally.
Prepackaged Rice Krispie Treats I like to use the name brand rice krispie treats for these monster rice krispie treats but you can use Homemade Rice Krispie Treats too!
Green Candy Melts or Vanilla candy coating – When it comes to candy melts, I really like to use the Make and Mold candy wafers from Amazon or Hobby Lobby. I’ve tried some other brand names that just don’t melt well and I don’t like to waste money with unusable candy melts. If you use Vanilla Candy Coating (kind of like white chocolate) , you’ll need to dye it with green food coloring BUT it has to be OIL BASED food coloring.
Monster Eyes and Mouths – For these monsters, I used the “Favorite Day – Funny Faces Candy Decorations” from Target’s Halloween section.

How To Make Monster Rice Krispie Treats:
-
Melt green candy melts according to package directions.
-
Dip rice krispie treats into candy coating and coat all sides.
-
Place on a piece of parchment paper.
-
While melted candy melts are still wet, add candy eyeballs and mouths.
-
Let treats sit, undisturbed, for about 30 minutes to harden.

HELP! I Can’t Find Green Candy Melts!
If you can’t find the right color or need something quick, use either the Great Value Almond Bark (don’t worry there are no nuts in it!) or the Food Lion Candy Coating and color it with Oil Based Food Coloring for Chocolate.
You can find this on Amazon as well or in stores like Walmart, Hobby Lobby and Michaels.
Make sure that you’re using OIL BASED food coloring with working with chocolate or candy melts. You can not use regular food coloring to color them because those are water based. If you mix water based food coloring with chocolate or candy melts, the chocolate/candy will seize up and turn into a gloopy, crusty mess.
I Can’t Find The Monster Faces At My Target!
I know that is frustrating! You may be able to order them from Target online, however, if you can’t find those, don’t worry! You can still make some cute monster rice krispie treats with candy eyes!
I’ve seen candy eyes on Amazon and at Dollar Tree and at Dollar General this year.
You could also try your hand at making homemade royal icing faces. I need to make a tutorial for that, but until then, you can google “How to Make Royal Icing Transfers” and you’ll find lots of helpful options!
Can I Make These In Advance?
Yes! You can make these up to a week in advance and keep them at room temperature in an airtight container.
